song of the week 4: stereolab - cybele's reverie

When the Fall appeared on "Later", Mark E Smith famously got the chirpy/annoying* host to sign an agreement that he wouldn't insist on playing "boogie-woogie piano" all over it.

Thankfully Jools also failed to get his early jazz-inflected mits on this one...

Now I KNOW this album is good as I've been listening to it for years. Didn't realise that they had been on Later with it though. It sounds suprisingly good live! And yes, thank heavens Jools didn't insist on 'joining in'.

At my annual High Llamas gig a couple of months ago, Laetitia Sadier got up and sang Cookie Bay then came and stood next to me. I'd like to say that I then proceeded to impress her with my rapier wit etc but to be honest I was feebly star-struck...
